Cinéart heeft de afgelopen jaren met regelmaat een hedendaagse klassieker opnieuw uitgebracht in de bioscoop. Na recente releases van onder meer IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE (van Wong Kar Wai), HABLE CON ELLA, VOLVER en TODO SOBRE MI MADRE (van Pedro Almodóvar) en MULHOLLAND DRIVE (van David Lynch), kan Cinéart twee volgende projecten aankondigen: ORLANDO (van Sally Potter) en THE VIRGIN SUICIDES (van Sofia Coppola).

De boekverfilmingen van respectievelijk Virginia Woolf en Jeffrey Eugenides werden origineel uitgebracht in de jaren ’90, met hoofdrollen voor Tilda Swinton in ORLANDO en Kirsten Dunst in THE VIRGIN SUICIDES. Van beide films is een 4k-restauratie gemaakt, die binnenkort op het grote doek te zullen zijn.

“My task [...] was to find a way of remaining true to the spirit of the book and to Virginia Woolf's intentions, whilst being ruthless with changing the book in any way necessary to make it work cinematically...The most immediate changes were structural. The storyline was simplified [and] any events which did not significantly further Orlando's story were dropped [...] And Orlando's change of sex in the film is the result of his having reached a crisis point—a crisis of masculine identity.”

“I don’t know if I would have a film career if it wasn’t for that book. Turning it into a film really opened me up, gave me the bug. I think I was just wandering in my 20s, trying to figure out what I wanted to do, trying different things and having that angst of not feeling comfortable in your own skin yet. It was scary directing a film, but I was so connected with the material I felt like I had no choice. The Virgin Suicides made me a film-maker.” 

De releasedata voor de 4K-restauraties van ORLANDO en THE VIRGIN SUICIDES worden nog bekend gemaakt.
