Antonia Bird is een voormalig theaterregisseur in het Royal Court Theatre in Londen en heeft daarna verschillende televisieprogramma's geregisseerd. Hierna begon ze met het regisseren van films. Ze staat bekend om haar realistische, sociaalbewuste films en ze is dan ook een groot bewonderaar van Ken Loach. Tegenwoordig runt ze het productiebedrijf 4-way Films onder andere samen met Robert Carlyle.
